uncle bobby’s tips on adulting and how to have more good days than bad
1) If you can’t exercise your body, exercise other things, like your capacity for empathy and compassion. Exercise your attention span, your posture, your breathing, your tolerance, your sense of wonder, and your sense of humor. If you can laugh at yourself lovingly, that’s the best!
2) Take vitamin D supplements every day.
3) Being bored is a choice.
4) Pay attention to the lighting around you. Adjust the lighting to your mood, not the other way around.
5) Don’t be mean to people. It makes it hard to sleep.
6) When you’re afraid, you can pretend that you’re not.
7) When you’re upset, try drinking a glass of water.
9) Meet the unexpected with curiosity
10) Don’t waste an opportunity to be kind. It helps you sleep better.
11) Don’t be so attached to every outcome. Sometimes things don’t go how you want them to, and that’s ok.
12) Don’t be afraid to cuss a little but there’s no need to be vulgar.
13) Keep things tidy. It’s calming.
14) Sometimes you can spend more time complaining about having to do something than actually getting it done. Stop that!
15) Do the things that you don’t want to do but that you have to do first. Then spend the rest of your day turning your “To-Do” list into a “Ta-DAH!” list!
16) This may sound weird but I give myself a wink when I see my reflection throughout the day. It’s dorky, I know, but it makes me laugh. (See tip #1)
17) Get stuck? There’s a YouTube video for just about everything.
18) I say please and thank you to my AI apps. Not because I think they have feelings, but just to remind me that I do.
19) You don’t have to fill every moment of every day with activity. Sometimes it’s nice to just sit there for a few minutes relaxing in a pool of gratitude.
20) Use your full name when you meet someone. It throws them off and it’s hilarious!
